October 02, 2007 Update Thanks again for all the good wishes sent to my husband Bob, who had a heart transplant on August 21. Bob is continuing to improve daily and is looking forward to the day when he can appear in public without wearing a mask (because of his immunosuppressant drugs). It was truly a miracle and we urge everyone to consider having the 'organ donor' specification added to your drivers licence (and judging from the comments we've received, a good many of you have already made the decision)! -Robin
Tile Update and Our News! Many thanks to those who have sent tiles. We have really enjoyed browsing through all of them. Please accept my apologies for not e-mailing each of you personally to thank you. On August 21, my husband Bob, who is also one of our employees, had a heart transplant! When we got the call, we had to drop everything and run to the hospital. I am happy to report that he is back home again as of August 30 and so far so good! April and Cathy have been working overtime to keep things running here at the shop and have done a great job of keeping orders flowing out the door. Needless to say things have been a little hectic though. After taking a short break on Labor Day to catch our breaths, we will start sending your cord and necklaces out next week. Thanks for all the prayers, good vibes and good wishes we have received!
The Studio !! After nearly a year of moving from Minnesota back to Jacksonville, Florida, unpacking and building our new studio and creative center, we're finally within days of being up and running! We will be holding classes, retreats, play-days, get-togethers and whatever. We have teamed up with my sister April and her husband Guy, who are both fantastic artists, and we have some fun things planned!
The Table To celebrate being back in the south, we are decorating the creative center in a colorful tropical / Caribbean kinda flavor. We have a 30" round table that is rather drab, and we have decided to tile it with polymer clay tiles. This is where you come in - we could easily make the tiles ourselves, but it would really mean a lot to us to have tiles made by other polymer clay artists. It would also be a great inspiration and source of examples for our polymer clay students. If anyone would like to send in a small tile for our table we would genuinely appreciate it. Of course, we don't expect something for nothing! Here is what we are offering in return: For each tile contributed (up to 3), we will send you your choice of a satin cord necklace (any color or length), or 10 yards of satin cord in any color or length. But wait - there's more... We're going to make it a contest! Because we will love and treasure every tile that we receive, we know that we won't be able to pick a favorite. But we will have a drawing! The grand prize will be a $50 gift certificate to your choice of JoAnns, Michaels or our own website. There will be 2 second-place prizes of $25 gift certificates to our website There will be 3 third-place prizes of $10 gift certificates to our website
The Details Tiles should be 2" square and can look like anything you want. Don't feel that they have to be really fancy. You can go with the Caribbean theme or not. We'd like people to be able to sit a glass on the table without having it tip over, so we're asking that the tiles be flat (a little textured is ok) and be the thickness of the thickest setting on your pasta machine. We realize they won't all be exact, but we'll find a way to deal with it. If you would like to sign the front or put your initials, that would be great! I will keep a chart showing who created each tile, but it would be nice to be able to just look at the table and pick out who sent what. Especially for you budding polymer clay artists - it will be fun to show off the table several years from now when you are famous and tell people that it was one of the first things you ever created! Send up to 3 tiles - you will get an entry in the drawing for each tile that you send. If we end up with extra tiles, we'll apply them to a piece of wall art to go with the table. Send to: robin@stellaceleste.com Please specify when you send your tiles if you would like the necklace or the 10 yards of satin cord. Be sure to let us know what color you would like and the length that you would like the necklace if that is what you choose.
The Dates and Other Stuff We will collect tiles through the end of September. Of course, we will post pictures of all the tiles that we receive, along with your name, if you like. Please allow us up to 2 months after that to finish the table - we are doing several art shows in October / November and things will be a little hectic for a while. But we will get it done!!
The most important other stuff! Thank you to all of our customers, students, friends, clay-mates and everyone else that we have met along this journey. If you're in the area, please let us hear from you. We may have a clay-day coming up that you could join us for. We will be getting a class schedule online at some point soon, but if you have class requests, please let us know! ...or at least give us a call and stop by to see our new table!
